It was wonderful to see many
of you in October at our Fall Membership meeting. It was a
lovely day and your attendance at this event was enthusiastic.
We have many more exciting events and activities in the coming
months! I look forward to seeing everyone.
Activities and Events:
On Wednesday, November 12th the Guild presents
its Thirteenth Annual Fall Festival of Fashions
luncheon honoring Johnnie Ward Medina at the San Antonio Country
Club. What a wonderful event, Margie Rust and Caroline Sanders
have worked very hard to make this an afternoon to remember!
Our Opera Study Course continues on Monday, November 10th
& 17th, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Attendance
is at an all time high this year, so call Elizabeth Lyle and
reserve your spot. On November 16th, The
Guild will sponsor a bus trip to the Austin Lyric Opera to see
Cinderella by Rossini. Please contact Margie Rust for
reservations. November 22nd, MET Live in HD
will broadcast La Damnation de Faust for more information,
location and time,
www.metopera.org/HDLive. Andrea Bocelli will
perform for the San Antonio Opera on November 25th
and 26th please contact SAO for information. Our
member Holiday Soiree will take place on December 14th
and I look forward to another great crowd.
Opera Education Program:.
The Pied Piper tours to elementary schools in San
Antonio will begin December 16th – 22nd,
with a Spring tour in May. Please contact Margaret King
Stanley, V.P. of Education, to volunteer.
Adult Opera Education Program:
The Opera’s of Mozart is the subject of this year’s
Opera Study Course, a series of 12 sessions and 24
hours of instruction, reservations are required! Our
Matinee at the Opera series will continue in February, but
in the meantime Roger Bessey and Elizabeth Lyle have arranged a
return to the Village at Incarnate Word for a DVD presentation
of Hansel and Gretel in the Christus Heritage Hall on
November 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. The Austin Bus Trip has
added to the fun of learning with an enthusiastic group
journeying to our neighboring opera for Rossini’s Cinderella
on Sunday, November 16, 2008. We are also looking
forward to a delightful evening with Anna Delperdang in
January for the Guild’s Opera Enhancement Evening.
Please check out our
EVENTS PAGE and mark your
calendars for these exciting opportunities.
Our Website Development
Committee continues toward our goal of redesigning the
website this year. In an effort to address our marketing and
public relations issues, we have applied to the PRSA of San
Antonio for their Gift of Guidance program in December.
If we are selected, this wonderful group of public relations
professionals will provide guidance and a mini PR plan for our
non-profit organization. This will be a great help in
furthering our goal of reaching a broader audience of opera
enthusiasts.
The Guild will need its
volunteers this year as we attempt to expand our membership.
Please talk about The Guild with your friends; they are always
our best prospects for membership. As you all know, this is a
wonderful organization supported by bright, committed people and
I am honored to serve you.

Opera Guild of San Antonio 2008-2009
